Preload & Launch Day
Practical information for Australian players getting ready for the GTA 6 launch on 19 November 2026.
When you can preload
Physical (code-in-box) editions will be available in stores from 12 November 2026 — a full week before launch — so you can buy, redeem the code, and preload the game well ahead of midnight on the 19th.
Digital preload timing has not been announced by Rockstar. This page will be updated as soon as an official date is confirmed.
Digital preload date: TBC — will update when Rockstar announce it.
Storage space
Rockstar has not yet confirmed the official file size for GTA 6. Based on the scale of the game, it is reasonable to set aside a significant amount of space on your PS5 or Xbox Series X|S now.
Check back closer to launch once Rockstar publish the official size. In the meantime, clearing unused games or moving them to external storage is a sensible precaution.
Official file size: TBC — will update when confirmed.
Stable internet on launch night
A day-one patch is expected for a game of this size. Having the game preloaded does not guarantee you can play the moment midnight hits — the patch itself may need to download and install first.
A stable, reasonably fast internet connection on launch night is worth planning for.
PC players
No PC release date has been announced for GTA 6.
Based on Rockstar's pattern with previous titles — GTA V launched on PC approximately 18 months after console, and Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on PC around 12 months after console — a PC version typically follows. That said, Rockstar has not confirmed a PC release for GTA 6, and those past timelines are not a guarantee for this game.
PC release date: not announced. The timeline above reflects historical patterns only.
Returning GTA V players
Rockstar has confirmed a one-time migration path for players moving from GTA V. You will be able to transfer your GTA V Story Mode progress and your GTA Online characters and progression to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Further details on how the migration process works will be shared by Rockstar closer to launch.
